Welcome to Term Two and Cross Country Season

HIGH CADENCE welcomes everyone back after a short break over the Easter holiday period.

Basic cross country training is broken down into three phases: Phase 1 is base building, Phase 2 is your competition training, and Phase 3 is your championship and fine tuning/peaking phase. Building a base is the foundation of any good runner. All High Cadence athletes have spent Term 1 laying the necessary foundation. The Term 1 HC program focused on building up your km’s, strength, endurance, and confidence. Building kilometers in your legs is self explanatory – maintaining your long run. You need kilometers (aerobic base/capacity) under your belt to work on the overall cross country season. As you run more kms, this builds strength, endurance, and the confidence you need to ready yourself for the harder/higher intensity training sessions and races.

There are many Cross Country events throughout Term 2, so please familiarise yourselves with the TRAINING SCHEDULE and COMPETITION CALENDAR. High Cadence athletes should be targeting the following events:

  • Inter-house Cross Country Carnivals
  • District Cross Country Events – Please see your school Sports Administrators for the necessary paperwork
  • Metropolitan/Regional Cross Country Events – Please see your school Sports Administrators for the necessary paperwork
  • QA Cross Country Relay Championships – High Cadence will nominate teams
  • 35th Queensland All Schools Cross Country Championships – Competitive High Cadence athletes should ENTER this event (qualifying event for QLD HEAT Cross Country Team). Please see your school Sports Administrators for the necessary paperwork or register online (nominating your school).
  • QGSSSA Cross Country Championships
  • GPS Cross Country Championships
  • Qld Schools Cross Country Championships – Qualifiers only
  • QA State Cross Country Championships

It is extremely important that you register with Qld Athletics; renew your membership; or check the status of your membship if you intend on racing at any of the QA events.

Training Times
Please note the High Cadence Training Schedule has changed for Weeks 1-7 in Term 2, due to GPS Cross Country Coaching commitments. TUESDAY sessions will be on WEDNESDAY’S commencing Week 2 – Week 7. The Training Program will revert back to the usual training times from Week 8 – Monday 05 June.
